Belagavi’s Sasya Santhe garners good response
Belagavi: ‘Sasya Santhe’, an exhibition and sale of various types of saplings organised by the horticulture department for three days in Belagavi from Saturday has many takers.The horticulture department has organised a three-day ‘Sasya Santhe’ at Hume Park, in Belagavi. MLA Asif (Raju) Sait and Mangala Angadi, Member of Parliament, inaugurated the plant festival, horticultural campaign and palm tree distribution programme at Hume Park on Club Road in the city. On this occasion, deputy director of horticulture department Mahantesh Muragod, Belagavi district horticulture association secretary VH Lengade and officials were present. Hundreds of types of saplings have been kept for exhibition and sale.Quality flower plants, ornamental plants, different types of fruit plants, mushroom seed, mushroom crop and honey products produced in the mushroom laboratory and biological centres, various organic fertilisers produced in Belagavi and water and earthworm fertiliser produced in the horticulture fields are for sale to the public and farmers at departmental rates.Saplings of guava, chiku, lakshmanaphal, Ramphal, curry, lemon, coconut and other plants, ornamental plants, flowering plants and vegetable plants are being sold by the department.Mahantesh Muragod, deputy director of the horticulture department said that, out of the total 24 horticulture fields in the district, mainly Shedagalli horticulture field in Khanapur, Hidkal horticulture field in Hukkeri, Dhupadal horticulture field in Gokak, Kittur horticulture field in Kittur, botanical gardens in Rampur, Munavalli, Yakkeri, Ugaragol and Savadatti, the saplings developed in 9 places are available for sale at the Sasya Santhe. Also, vertical garden, hydroponics technology and bonsai plants have been put on display and sale, he said.Miyazaki mango plantMiyazaki mango sapling from Japan, which is known as the most expensive mango fruit in the world, was put on display at Sasya Santhe. Its price is higher than gold - Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 2.7 lakh per kg. This variety of mango needs good sun and water to grow. It bears fruit once a year. This mango is red on the surface, but yellow inside. The speciality of Miyazaki mango is that it is highly nutritious. It contains nutrients like folic acid, antioxidants and beta-carotene which are good for health. The peel of this mango is also edible.
