Belagavi’s Club Road to be renamed after late B Shankaranand

Belagavi: The Club Road in Belagavi city will soon bear the name of senior Congress leader and former Union minister late B Shankaranand. A formal naming ceremony is scheduled for Saturday by B Shankaranand Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, headed by his son, Pradeep Kanagali.Late B Shankaranand served as an MP from Chikodi Lok Sabha constituency for several terms and held key portfolios in the Union cabinet for over two decades. In 2024, the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) unanimously passed a resolution to rename Club Road in his honour, recognising his contributions to the region and the nation.Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Pradeep Kanagali announced that the foundation stone for a statue of B. Shankaranand will also be laid at the Club Road Circle, located in front of the late leader's residence. The ceremony will be led by Karnataka home minister Dr G Parameshwara, in the presence of public works minister Satish Jarkiholi.Several dignitaries, including KLES chairman Dr Prabhakar Kore, Govt of Karnataka's Delhi representative Prakash Hukkeri, MPs Jagadish Shettar and Priyanka Jarkiholi, former MP Ramesh Katti, and former MLA Firoz Sait, will attend as guests. Local leaders, including MLAs Abhay Patil and Asif Sait, mayor Mangesh Pawar, and deputy mayor Vani Joshi, will also be felicitated during the programme.
