Belagavi villagers protest pothole-riddled bridge
Belagavi: Several potholes in 100-metre stretch on the Parishwad bridge, built on Malaprabh river, have made the structure unsafe for use for the past two days.
On Thursday morning, villagers sat on the bridge and protested, demanding that the MLA should come and see it.
The bridge in the Parishawad village of Khanapur taluk, Belagavi, connects several villages for those who need to go to Bedlagavi and also connects villages such as Avorolli, Beedi, Hiremunavalli, Chikkamunavalli and Alnavar taluk.
Social activist Sandeep Chalvadhi of the Bheem Army, said the bridge was repaired three months ago at the cost of Rs 20 lakh. “But after one bout of rain, all the work has been undone. The work was done with substandard materials. One of potholes is about 10 metres deep,” he said.
“Parishwad village is famous for its vegetable market where villagers come from nearby but for two days no one has come,” sandeep said. “For pregnant women and patients who wish to go Belagavi, this bridge is not a problem,” he said
When TOI called up MLA Anjali Nimblakar, there was no response.
Basavaraj Halagi, the AEE, said: “The PWD department has visited the spot and we are working on the matter.”
