Avva awards presented to 12 achievers

Hubballi: Avva awards event (dedicated to mother) organised by legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti is a model for the state, said deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar. He was speaking after inaugurating the Avva awards ceremony organised to mark the 14th death anniversary of Horatti's mother by Avva Trust here on Sunday.
Shivakumar said everyone should realise that there is no one greater than a mother. "One's faith can be changed according to circumstances, but the education and culture given by a mother cannot be changed. Mother is our root. Her love cannot be valued," he said.
He added that Horatti recognises and gives awards to achievers across the state and that those who receive these awards should be more responsible. "Society is closely watching the ideals, values, and principles we have. The basics of life are education and culture," said Shivakumar.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi presented the awards and said that mother means love, support and everything. "The affection of a mother is incomparable. Those who do not treat their parents well will never prosper. Parents, who start looking for schools even before their child is born, should realise that the culture they get at home from their mother can never be found in school," he expressed.
Legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti said that to date, 68 people have honoured with the Avva Awards. "These awards are given to achievers every year in memory of my mother. A mother is equal to god. Everyone should treat their parents with love and affection," he said.
Dignitaries on the stage presented the awards to various achievers, including SR Patil, Chandrakanth Vaddu, Sangamanath Lokapur, Chote Rehmat Khan, Rekha Hegde, Keshav Hegde, S Mahadevayya, Rajeshwari Patil, Basavaraj Shiggavi, Trisha Jadal and Ankita Konnur .
The ceremony was held in the presence of Ilkal Vijayamahanteshwar Samsthan Mutt seer Gurumahant Swamiji. Chief guest Akshaya Gokhale and others were present.
