HUBLI: Merchants of Akki Honda who have been shifted to the APMC yard after the SC order are finding it hard to adjust to the new place, thanks to lack of basic facilities at the yard.
Speaking to TOI, Veeresh Kurahatti, a merchant at the APMC yard said there are no good roads, electricity, telephone, underground drainage, security and other basic facilities.
Another merchant Raju said, most of the merchants at the yard are keeping dogs to take care of their shops and goods as the area lacks security personnel. We get power for around 6 hours a day. There are no proper telephone connections. This has hit our business badly, he added.
There are no good restaurants in the vicinity and no proper banking facilities for huge transactions. Gutters in the yard are filled with mud. GM Chikkmath, president of the merchants' association said, "We are trying our best to get the basic facilities and to improve the market." Suresh Dasanur, APMC president said, "Already we have laid the pipelines to supply drinking water. Gradually we will take up development works in the area. We have given approval to banks who have approached us. They will soon start functioning."
