HUBLI: How does advertising operate? MBA colleges in the city are trying to give insights into this industry by conducting fests. The aim is to capture a 360 degree view of the advertising industry with focus on consumer expectations and how the industry can face the challenges in a highly competitive market place.Students participate in many events related to the advertisement field like Ice Breaking, Ad Gossamer, Ad Wiz and Ad-O-Mania. KLE Society's Institute of Management Studies and Research of Hubli (IMSR) had recently organized a mega event, 'Bamboozie-2014', exclusively for business schools to show their skills in the domain of advertising and media. Other management colleges plan to conduct similar advertisement fests.P B Roodagi, director, KLE-IMSR, said: "There are plenty of opportunities available in the field of advertisement and media, but students lack proper exposure. So we decided to conduct the advertisement fest for the North Karnataka students as well as outsiders. We have received good response. Around 20 teams from different MBA colleges from Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore and Pune as well as from the North Karnataka region participated.
''Ashuthosh Kulkarni, an MBA student, said: "Conducting advertisement fests definitely help students understand better the concept of advertisements and as to how they are devised than learning it in theory during the MBA course."What are the events all about?Ad-ManAd-Man is a person who is totally involved in advertising. This event intends to bring out the skills of Ad-Man.Ad-WizIt is based on quiz format. Participants have to smartly showcase their storehouse of knowledge on advertising and media industry in order to emerge as the winner. There will be different rounds like 'Bid Your Luck', based on advertisements, agencies, taglines, logos etc. and 'Rapid Fire' where participants have to answer questions within the time allotted.Ad-FlickstersThis event focuses on the analysis of advertisements. It emphasizes on details like concept, content, way of presentation and impact generation on ad-viewers. It encourages writing skills as advertisement is presented in an advertorial format. Choice of words plays crucial and decisive role in this section. There are various rounds for participants to show their prowess in choosing the right words for right impact.Ad-O-ManiaIt is about creativity in advertising and using the best execution for achieving the maximum advertising effectiveness. It intends to set the participants in creative mode as they have to be on their toes in order to take up a spot ad. There are different rounds like 'Ad Shoot' and 'Ad Sharaj'. While 'Ad Shoot' involves real time shooting of advertisements for small businesses run along roadside, 'Ad Sheraj' involves coordination between team members where one will act and the other will identify the right answer.
