BELAGAVI: Actor Ramesh Arvind, philosopher Mata Akka Annapurna and social worker V Ravichandar received honorary doctorate during the 10th annual convocation of the Rani Channamma University (RCU) here on Wednesday.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who presided over the convocation, conferred the degrees on the dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, the governor called upon the students to join hands for Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Gehlot said India has now become a centre of attraction for startups.
He appreciated the progress of the university in the short span. He said it's the first university in the state, which implemented the NEP-2020.
While delivering the keynote address, prof Tejaswi Kattimani, vice-chancellor of Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh, emphasised on convincing students about the importance of science. He said the gap between science taught in schools and laboratories is increasing.
Vice-chancellor Ramachandra Gowda said the university has successfully implemented NEP, besides distributing educational certificates to students through DIGILocker. He also said six hostels for boys and four for girls have been sanctioned under the Deendayal Upadhyay Souhard Vasati Nilay scheme.
In all, 48 PhD degrees were awarded, and rank certificates were given to 163 students - 97 UG and 66 PG. MP Annasaheb Jolle, Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi, registrar M Hanumantappa, registrar (evaluation) Shivanand Gornale and others were present.
