90% land acquisition completed for Belagavi Ring Road: Union min
Belagavi: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari informed parliament that 90% of the land acquisition for the proposed 69.4-km Belagavi Ring Road has been completed. He provided a written response to a question raised by Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi during the ongoing budget session. Gadkari stated that National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has divided the Rs 1,622-crore project into three packages. Tendering has already begun for Package 1, while the detailed project reports (DPRs) for the remaining two packages have been finalised and are awaiting technical approval from central govt. The ring road aims to alleviate growing traffic congestion in Belagavi city and improve connectivity to industrial areas. Once completed, it is expected to allow heavy vehicles coming from Bengaluru, Pune, and Goa to bypass the city and travel directly along the outer corridor. The proposed route will pass through 32 villages in the taluk, including Honaga, Mutaga, and Uchagaon. Kadadi mentioned in a press release that the project is also expected to support the region's rural economy.
