Youth found dead in Silchar drain on NY’s Day
Silchar: A youth was found dead beneath his motorcycle, which had fallen into an open drain choked with wild foliage, plastic waste and garbage in the E&D Colony area of Silchar on Thursday morning, just hours after a road accident was reported on New Year’s Eve.The incident has triggered questions over visibility and the delay in locating the youth. The deceased has been identified as Arjun Das, also known as Shuna (26), a resident of Tarapur. He worked as a cable operator.According to locals, the bike was first spotted late on Dec 31 inside the drain. Traffic officials and police reached the spot at night, but the rider could not be traced. The motorcycle was finally pulled out on Thursday morning, when Das’s body was found trapped underneath.“Police had come last night and said the bike would be recovered, but it wasn’t done then. If it had been recovered earlier, maybe he could have been found sooner,” a resident said.Visuals from the scene showed the drain almost completely concealed by overgrowth and accumulated waste, with poor lighting in the area.
