SHILLONG: The Military Hospital in Shillong on Friday celebrated
World Organ Donation Day by organizing a lecture to create awareness among people on the issue. The event was attended by security personnel and their families at the Sillong Military station.
The army officials, who spoke on the occasion, said cases of corneal blindness were on the rise in developing countries like India.
There are 10 million blind people in the country out of which about 4 million are of corneal blindness. At least 50 per cent of them can gain vision through corneal transplant. Anyone can pledge to donate his or her eyes and other organs after death. There could be no greater donation than donating eyesight," a official said.
On the other hand, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to conduct a recruitment rally at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Itanagar from November 4 to 6.
