Women Commission seeks govt job for molestation victim
GUWAHATI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday recommended the state government to rehabilitate the July 9 molestation victim with a government job and financial aid. These are among the 17 suggestions of the NCW to the government for the safety of women. It also demanded to make present laws of the country against perpetrators of crimes against women more stringent.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has already sanctioned Rs 50,000 for the victim, who expressed her willingness to set up a parlour of her own when she met Gogoi on Monday.
NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma, accompanied by member Nirmala Samant who arrived here on Wednesday, said after a meeting with chief minister Tarun Gogoi, "The molestation incident can't be because of law and order failure only. If police intervene on time, a lot of attack on girls can be been avoided. But the NCW sees this incident more as a apathy of society as people witnessed the gruesome act being executed rather than saving her."
The NCW chairperson said, "Our first priority is to ensure that the case is investigated in a time-bound manner and the chief minister has agreed to all our recommendations." The NCW has asked the state government to "rehabilitate the victim with a government job in accordance with the state policy or otherwise," to give "support and psychological counselling" to the victim immediately and medical check-up supported by treatment and financial aid.
NCW recommended several steps for police to implement, which include police patrolling with women personnel in the entire state and setting up of special police pickets in all 128 pubs of the state till the closing time of 10.30 pm for safety and security of women.
