Itanagar: Police recovered a woman’s body from a bamboo-thatched house in Chimpu-I on Wednesday.
Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi said police were first alerted around 6.20pm on Monday, following a call to the control room. Neighbours had complained to the landlord about a foul smell emanating from the house, which prompted the landlord to inform the authorities.
Initial verification revealed that the house belonged to Kamal Pradhan, an 80-year-old spiritual practitioner, locally known as a ‘baba’, who has been missing for about a week, police said.
“We have not yet identified the body, but we suspect it may belong to a woman who often visited the baba. Her family has been called to help identify her through her clothing. The body has also been sent for DNA testing and post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” the official said.
