Silchar: A middle-aged woman was run over by a goods train in Sribhumi district on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 11am in the Kalkalibasti area, situated between Kalkalighat and Chandkhira railway stations. The deceased has been identified as Malina Sinha, a resident of Kochubari village.
According to locals, Sinha was hit by a Tripura-bound train. However, officials are yet to ascertain whether the death was an accident or a case of suicide.
Govt Railway Police (GRP) personnel, along with Patharkandi circle officials, rushed to the spot and sent the body to Sribhumi civil hospital for an autopsy. The GRP has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
