‘Will move SC over madrassa closure’

Guwahati: Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court’s stay on the Allahabad High Court’s order, which had declared the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Act, 2004 as “unconstitutional”, and said the party will soon approach the apex court against the closure of madrassas in Assam.
The AIUDF chief and Dhubri MP said the SC’s order makes it clear that the decision taken by the BJP-led NDA government in Uttar Pradesh to shut down madrassas was unconstitutional.
The MP said that in Assam, too, the BJP-led government has been continuously attacking and making derogatory remarks about madrassas.
He added, “The government has already closed down government-run madrassas and even bulldozed madrassas. We have condemned this act earlier and now we will approach the Supreme Court against the gross injustice being meted out to madrassa education in Assam.”
He expressed optimism in getting justice in the case of Assam too.
