Wife & friends pin hope on judiciary, seek expedited trial
Guwahati: With the SIT filing the chargesheet in the Zubeen Garg death case on Friday, people of Assam have now pinned hope on the judiciary.
Fans and admirers of legendary singer have been raising the demand for justice for Zubeen since his death in Singapore.
Zubeen’s wife Garima Saikia Garg, who visited the singer’s cremation ground on Friday evening, said the SIT completed the investigation the way the family members expected them to. “Now, everything will depend on the judiciary. We hope that everything will go on smoothly in the court as well. We want every guilty person to receive exemplary punishment. No one should escape. We have faith in the investigation as well as in the judiciary,” she added.
“What could be the reasons behind killing him? My family has been destroyed,” she said.
Meanwhile, All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) chief advisor Samjjal Kumar Bhattacharjya told the media, “We have not seen the chargesheet. But we hope that the SIT has submitted a strong chargesheet, which will ensure conviction of the guilty.”
“CM said the role of police in the case is over and now, it is over to the court. We would say that the responsibility of state govt has now become double with the filing of the chargesheet. Assam govt had said it would approach the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court for a fast track trial in the case and that a special public prosecutor would be appointed by the govt. Govt has to take the responsibility of appointing a competent public prosecutor in order to establish the charges in the court,” Bhattacharjya said.
He added that Aasu, along with the people of Assam, will wait for a verdict convicting those guilty and exemplary punishment to them.
Zubeen’s close friend and singer Manas Robin, who paid tribute to the singer at his cremation ground at Sonapur on Friday, appealed to all the people whose statements were recorded by the SIT during the investigation, to extend cooperation during the trial in the court to ensure justice for Zubeen.
“Chargesheet has been filed by the SIT. Now, the trial will begin. We want the trial in an expedited manner through a fast-track court. I appeal to everyone to cooperate and have patience,” he added.
