IMPHAL: The United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) on Friday entered into a peace deal with the government even as chief minister
Okram Ibobi Singh urged other outfits of the state to follow suit.
A tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between the outfit, Centre and the state government at 1st BN Manipur Rifles' complex here in the presence of Ibobi Singh, deputy CM Gaikhangam and senior officials at a "homecoming" ceremony and signing of the peace pact ceremony.
The MoU was signed by Shambhu Singh, joint secretary (northeast) on behalf of the home ministry and J Suresh Babu, principal secretary (home) for the state government and three UPPK leaders - A Bonbihari (president), N Shanti (general secretary ) and M Maichon, "chief of army" - on behalf of the outfit.
Altogether 80 UPPK cadres, including top leaders, turned up for Friday's ceremony with 36 sophisticated weapons, bombs and electronic gadgets.
