DIBRUGARH: Ahead of the Independence Day, one cadre of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) was nabbed by security forces in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district on Thursday.
The arrest was made by a joint team of Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police during an operation carried out in the border village of Noglo in Tirap district.
It is being considered as a significant breakthrough in the security forces’ ongoing efforts to curtail the activities of the militant outfit.
“The joint team of security forces, acting swiftly, cordoned off the suspected area where the Ulfa (I) operative, identified as self-styled private Aparajit Nath, alias Pankaj Asom, was taking shelter. The surprise operation left the cadre with no opportunity to escape or put up resistance,” said a source in the Assam Rifles.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the cadre, who had joined the proscribed outfit last year, had recently crossed the Indo- Myanmar border, with intentions to infiltrate into Assam and carry out subversive activities.
