Two Bangladeshi nationals illegally enter India via Assam, pushed back: Himanta Biswa Sarma

NEW DELHI: Two Bangladeshi nationals, who illegally entered India, were apprehended in Assam and subsequently sent back to their country, according to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The duo were detained at Badarpur railway station and returned to Bangladesh on Friday night.

"Two Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended at Badarpur railway station by @assampolice," Sarma announced on X.

The apprehended individuals were identified as Masum Khan, a resident of an area under Modelganj police station in Bangladesh, and Sonia Akhtar of Dhaka. They entered India through the Madhoppur-Agartala route and were heading to Bengaluru, according to Sarma.

"In collaboration with the BSF, Assam Police successfully pushed them back across the border last night," the chief minister added.

Sarma also mentioned that over 30 Bangladeshis attempting to enter India without valid documents have been pushed back from Assam in the last month.

These individuals were reportedly heading to Bengaluru and other south Indian cities in search of work in the textile industry, Sarma claimed.
