2 non-tribals from Assam get 10-yr RI for drug trafficking in Mizoram

Aizawl: Two men from Assam were awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for drug trafficking by a fast-track court in Assam bordering Kolasib judicial district on Thursday. A fine of Rs 20,000 each has also been imposed on them.
Judge R Vanlalena held the two guilty under the NDPS Act and sent them to Kolasib district jail to serve their prison terms.
Muffazul Ahmed (29) and Rafique Uddin (23), both residents of Karimganj district, were arrested at Phaisen police check post by Mizoram Police on Jan 17 for concealing over 262gm of heroin in a truck bearing Tripura registration. They were coming from Aizawl in a truck and were heading towards Bilaipur in Hailakandi district of Assam. The truck they were driving did not carry any other goods.
In the event of default payment of the fine imposed by the court, the two convicts will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of three months, the sentence order said.
