Tripura govt provides land rights to 4.5k tea workers’ families: Minister
Agartala: The Tripura govt has provided land ownership to 4,500 families of tea garden workers, enabling them to live permanently without the fear of displacement, social welfare minister Tinku Roy said on Thursday.Over 6,500 workers are employed in 56 functional tea gardens across the state.“We have raised the daily wages for adult male and female workers from Rs 176 to Rs 204, while non-adult workers now earn Rs 102, an increase from Rs 88, which has enhanced their livelihoods,” he said. The minister highlighted that the current monthly allowance for differently abled individuals is Rs 2,000, which is much higher than what was offered during the Left Front govt.Additionally, those with learning disabilities now receive Rs 4,000 per month, a considerable rise from previous figures, and the govt will contemplate further increases in the future, depending on market conditions.Roy attributed that many eligible individuals are still unaware of the benefits available to them and the procedures for accessing them. It is crucial for community members to raise awareness and help others in obtaining these benefits.“A govt or political party cannot accomplish everything; the community must take the initiative and collaborate to ensure that everyone is informed and can access the available support,” Roy said.
