Tripura FM tables Rs 429.56cr deficit budget

Agartala: Tripura finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Friday presented a Rs 30,296.5 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, carrying a deficit of Rs 429.56 crore. The budget presentation marked the beginning of a 12-day budget session in the assembly.The minister highlighted that the budget prioritises inclusive development, women empowerment and infrastructure growth. The total projected expenditure stands at Rs 32,423.44 crore while the anticipated income from all sources is Rs 31,993.88 crore.The state anticipates tax revenue of Rs 4,010 crore and non-tax revenue of Rs 504 crore. Capital expenditure has received substantial allocation at Rs 7,903 crore, showing a 19.14% rise from the previous year. The overall budget size has increased by Rs 4,618.77 crore compared to last year.According to him, agriculture and allied sector received Rs 1,885.42 crore, reflecting a 9.49% rise. Education sector got Rs 6,166.19 crore with an 11.94% rise, while health sector received Rs 1,948.69 crore, up by 12.89%. Additionally, Rs 20 crore was allocated for socio-economic infrastructure in minority-concentrated blocks.The minister introduced 13 new schemes for vulnerable sections, including social pensions for unmarried and dependent children of army and paramilitary personnel from Tripura who lost their lives serving the nation.The budget included provisions for Bharat Mata Canteen cum night shelter, offering accommodation and subsidised food for visitors to Agartala.The govt announced several initiatives like Mukhyamantri Sashya Shyamala Yojana for promoting high-yield varieties, CM's Tribal Development Mission for competitive exam coaching, Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana for wedding expenses of Antyodaya families' daughters, and arrangements for mass marriage ceremonies for the poor.
