Tripura explores seaplane service to boost tourism

Agartala: In a move to revolutionise Tripura's tourism sector, tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury conducted a crucial meeting on Saturday with representatives from a private airline to discuss the potential introduction of seaplane operations in the state.The discussions centred on utilising waterways to improve connectivity to the state's tourist attractions.Speaking to the media, Chowdhury said, "We are taking special initiatives through the transport and tourism departments to introduce seaplane tourism — a first for Tripura."The initiative aims to provide swift and scenic access to water-based destinations including Narikel Kunja at Dumbur Lake, Chobimura, and various unexplored locations across the state's waterways."Seaplane tourism is not only a fascinating concept but also an innovative step that can unlock a new chapter in Tripura's tourism journey," the minister stated, emphasising how this venture could draw visitors from within India and abroad.He further mentioned that the administration is collaborating with the private aviation company to establish the necessary technical, operational and regulatory requirements for the service.Comprehensive plans will be announced shortly. The project, aimed at establishing Tripura as a premier destination for eco and adventure tourism in northeast India, is anticipated to create substantial economic benefits for regional communities, Chowdhury further said.
