GUWAHATI: Amid the open resentment within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday expanded his three and half years ministry by inducting three new faces.
All the three new ministers -- Ram Prasad Paul, Sushanta Chowdhury and Bhagaban Chandra Das are from BJP. Deb refrained from inducting anyone from ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT).
1x1 polls

While Paul is former state BJP vice president, Chowdhury is a youth leader and Das is the party’s key leader from northern Tripura.

With this expansion, the strength of the ministry is now 11, of which nine are from BJP and two from IPFT.
The expansion of ministry is seen as an exercise to douse the flames of dissent within the party ahead of the 2023 assembly election.
