GUWAHATI: As unruly driving creates chaos on the city roads, the district transport office has decided to train unemployed youths in commercial driving. The training cum orientation programme is being organized for road safety measures and to reduce road accidents in the city.
“We are trying to bring a level of discipline among the city bus drivers.

We will provide commercial licenses to the youths who successfully complete the training. We are hopeful of bring about a better scenario on the city roads. We are also grateful to the state transport corporation for being positive towards our proposal,” said DTO (license and registration) Gautam Das.
The DTO has appealed to interested youths, who are above 20 years of age, to join the training programme. The youths must have experience in driving to avail the facility besides passing class VIII. However, they will prefer candidates who have passed Class X. “It will be helpful for the unemployed state youth to develop their skills,” he said. Two motor vehicle inspectors Rafiqul Islam and Diganta Deka have been deputed as the coordinators of the programme.
The training programme, which will be free of cost, will have 20 youths per batch.
