NEW DELHI: Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed in Assam's Nagaon district on Friday night, according to police.
The attack took place in the Laokhowa Garajan area at the home of a retired Jal Jeevan Mission employee. Police said the victims were attacked with sharp weapons.
The deceased family members have been identified as Gunadhar Sarkar, Sarojini Sarkar, and their daughter Jayasmrita. The fourth victim's identity remains unknown.
Two other family members, a son and a daughter, were not home during the attack.
"Two other members of the family, a daughter whose marriage was scheduled next Wednesday and her brother, were away in Nagaon shopping for the wedding," police said.
Authorities are working to identify both the fourth victim and the attackers. The bodies have been transported to a hospital for post-mortem examinations.
