Three cops attacked by drunk villagers in Jorhat dist

Guwahati: Three police personnel, who had gone to investigate a vandalism case in a village in Assam’s Jorhat district on Sunday night, were allegedly attacked by a few drunk local residents with sticks and stones. The policemen sustained injuries and claimed that the attackers were in an inebriated condition.
Police arrested one accused, Raju Das (32), and have identified four more persons at Borhuj village under the jurisdiction of the Pulibor police station.
Jorhat SP Mohan Lal Meena said, “On Sunday evening, we received the information that a few local residents were indulging in vandalism at a community hall in the village. A four-member police team went to the spot, but did not find anyone in the community hall. As the team was about to leave, some unidentified people pelted them with stones.”
Meena said the constables, who were rushed to the hospital later, are out of danger.
