Tapan Deka next IB chief

GUWAHATI: The Appointments Committee of the central cabinet on Friday approved the appointment of IPS officer of 1988-batch Himachal Pradesh cadre, Tapan Kumar Deka, as the director of Intelligence Bureau.Deka is currently holding the charge of special director at IB and will take over from incumbent Arvinda Kumar, who will retire on June 30. Deka is the first Assamese to be elevated to the coveted post as director of IB. Before him, former Assam Police DGP Jayanta Choudhury had served as an additional director of IB till 2011. A former Aasu leader, Deka had cracked the UPSC in his first attempt and was the superintendent of police of Shimla district before he joined the IB.
