Want Wi-Fi enabled campus
Guwahati: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has asked Gauhati University (GU) to fulfill its charter of demands, which includes a Wi-Fi enabled campus and better lighting, within a month.
NSUI swept the election to GU’s Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) for the first time this year.
“The university has to provide facilities like wi-fi on the campus.

Students are facing trouble due to lack of continuous internet connectivity,” said Julfick Ahmed, a leading NSUI activist of GU.
Led by the president of GU’s NSUI unit, Isphakul Haque, a delegation of NSUI members, comprising Julfick Ahmed, Poroma Deuri, Harpreet Singh, Porag Barman, Rekibul Alom and Manowar H Saikia, met vice-chancellor Mridul Hazarika on Wednesday evening.
Haque said the students’ body will soon approach chief minister Tarun Gogoi with their demands.
In the charter of demands submitted before the VC, NSUI has said it wants the campus to be fenced to keep out miscreants. The students’ body demanded that the university authority should arrange buses for GU students so that they can go to other parts of the city. “We want the university to be under CCTV surveillance so that miscreants can be tracked,” Haque added.
NSUI has urged the GU authority to introduce facilities in the common rooms for boys and girls and adequate lighting in the playgrounds.
