Dibrugarh: Hundreds of women took to the streets in Dhemaji town on Monday in a show of protest against the Congress-led INDI Alliance, condemning the opposition’s decision to vote against the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill for women’s reservation in legislative bodies in the Lok Sabha.
The demonstration, organised under the banner of “Jan Akrosh Mahila Samadal,” saw participants marching through the town and raising slogans against opposition parties.
The protest was attended by senior party functionaries and grassroots workers alike. Rupa Kaman, president of Dhemaji district BJP, led the demonstration alongside Nivedita Das Deuri, secretary of the Assam State Mahila Morcha.
“Congress has once again betrayed the women of this country. By voting against this bill, they have exposed their regressive and anti-women mindset. Our sisters will not forgive those who stand in the way of their political empowerment,” Kaman said.
