Shillong: Meghalaya celebrated its Statehood Day on Wednesday with a special function at Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills, honouring the state’s founding father and first CM, late Captain Williamson A Sangma. This marked the first time that the state-level celebration was held in Baghmara.
The programme opened with a rendition of the state anthem by the Khmih Choir from Shillong, followed by a vibrant cultural showcase representing the diverse tribes of Meghalaya.
CM Conrad K Sangma, addressing the gathering, said, “With confidence, determination and a strong will, we will achieve the goals we have set for ourselves.”
