Six dacoits arrested, arms seized

GUWAHATI: In two separate incidents on Tuesday, police nabbed six dacoits from the Jorabat area along with arms and also seized a huge cache of contraband from the Beltola area here. In the first incident, police caught the dacoits while they were traveling from Meghalaya to city in the morning hours.
The arrested were identified as Saheb Ali, Asaruddin Khan, Md Nazar Ali from Barpeta district, Saddam Hussain, Usman Gani and Ramiz Uddin of Hatigaon area here. Police found two hand-made arms on them.
In Beltola, police succeeded to seize at least 137 kg of contraband from a courier service. The consignment was coming from New Delhi and was booked for Aizwal in Mizoram. "The seizure is worth Rs 4 to 5 crore," said city SSP A P Tiwari.
