IMPHAL: Senior leaders of the underground Manipur Naga People's Front (MNPF) were caught by Assam Rifles (AR) during an operation near Manipur's Moreh town bordering Myanmar.
During joint interrogation, it was revealed that the group has a camp in Myanmar and is supported by Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA) and the Peoples' Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
Based on inputs from its own sources and Manipur police, the AR checkpost at Khudengthabi was alerted on Thursday. While checking a van, MNPF's defence secretary, Joy Kasong, adviser, K Simrai and PRO, Khangum Kshung, were apprehended, the statement said.
The leaders also agreed that the cadres of the group are active in Ukhrul district and said that their apprehension has dealt a serious blow to the group.
"This operation demonstrates strict vigil and alertness by Assam Rifles in Manipur who are relentlessly operating in the state for restoring peace and normalcy," the statement said.
