Agartala: Union minister for development of north eastern region and communications,
Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for eight major development projects in Tripura, with a combined investment of Rs 365 crore.
The projects aim to boost road connectivity, tourism, energy, and the overall development of tribal areas in the state. Scindia emphasized that, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ashtalakshmi’ vision, the northeast is no longer just a geographical frontier but a driving force of India’s growth.
Of the eight projects, five worth Rs 270 crore have been completed, including the Jatanbari-Mandirghat via Tirathmukh Road (13.775 km) and the improvement of KA Road from Erarpar to Ambassa (28.90 km). These developments are expected to ease travel between villages, markets, schools, and hospitals, thereby strengthening the local economy. The Gandacherra-Raishyabari-Narikel Kunja Road (8 km) will further connect tribal settlements to district headquarters and essential services, enhancing social inclusion.
Scindia also highlighted the positive impact of improved connectivity from Amarpur (Fatiksagar) to Chabimura, foreseeing growth in heritage tourism and economic opportunities for local guides, artisans, and families.
Among the new projects, three worth Rs 95 crore include the Kowaifung (Panjirai)-Karbook Road (9.10 km), the Jampui (PMGSY Point)-Kangrai Road, and the Burighat-Sermun-II Road. These will ensure sustained connectivity for hilly and remote areas, keeping them integrated with mainstream development.
The minister underscored the importance of the Solar Micro Grid project under the PM-DevINE scheme, which will provide clean and reliable electricity in remote regions, strengthening education, healthcare, and livelihoods.
Scindia noted that the Centre has invested over Rs 6.5 lakh crore in the Northeast over the past 12 years, with every ministry allocating 10% of its budget to the region. He credited Tripura’s progress in social, economic, and infrastructure development to the leadership of chief minister Manik Saha and effective centre-state coordination.
Later in the day, Scindia is scheduled to visit development sites and offer prayers at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple (Matabari), a major Shaktipeeth, seeking blessings for the prosperity of the state and the nation.
