Silchar: Cachar police and the Assam Rifles on Thursday seized a large consignment of drugs during a joint operation in the Tolengram area under Lakhipur police station."Acting on specific intelligence inputs," the joint team carried out an anti-drug operation and recovered about 1.88 kg of suspected heroin packed in 154 soap cases, along with approximately 10,000 Yaba tablets, police sources said.

One person was arrested. The accused was identified as Xavien Vife, a resident of Jiribam in Manipur.Preliminary investigation indicates the contraband was being transported from Manipur and was likely meant to be smuggled further using the Barak river route. Police said the seized drugs have an estimated black-market value of around Rs 14 crore.A case has been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify other persons involved in the racket, police added.
