Guwahati: The total amount seized from Assam Civil Service officer Lachit Kumar Das, who was earlier arrested on graft charges, has gone up to Rs 1.66 crore in cash and Rs 86 lakh in FDs, police investigating the case said on Saturday.
Police investigating the case of arrested Assam Civil Service officer Lachit Kumar Das said on Saturday that more cash has been recovered from arrested Assam additional director, Land Records, taking the total amount seized from the officer to Rs 1.66 crore in cash and Rs 86 lakh in FDs.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended Das, additional director of the land records department, on Thursday following allegations of demanding a Rs 1 lakh bribe to issue an NOC for land sale permission.
The Directorate said on Friday night a team raided another one of Das’s residence at Queen’s Garden in the city’s Beltola area and recovered an additional Rs 1,18,30,000 (1.18 crore). “The total amount of recovered money stands at Rs 1,66,68,150. Documents of various real estate properties acquired by him were also recovered during the raid,” the directorate said.
After Das was apprehended on Thursday, officers had searched his Beltola residence and recovered Rs 48.38 lakh in cash. During that search, FDs worth Rs 86 lakh and some investment documents were also seized.
The directorate said Das was caught red-handed after he accepted Rs 45,000 from the complainant as bribe at his office.
