Silchar: A gang of five armed robbers looted cash and gold ornaments from a residence after tying up a woman and her daughter-in-law at Salepur village under Sonai police station in Cachar district late on Sunday night.
Police sources said the incident occurred around 2am at the residence of one Anjali Nath. The robbers allegedly broke open the grill gate before gaining entry into the house by unlocking the main door.
According to family members, the assailants were armed with firearms and sharp weapons and threatened the residents, preventing them from raising an alarm. The gang first snatched gold ornaments worn by Anjali. They then entered the room of her daughter-in-law Mayuri, tied her hands, and forcibly removed her jewellery.
The miscreants also ransacked almirahs and fled with cash and additional gold ornaments, the victims alleged.
On receiving information the following morning, a team from Sonai police station rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.
