JORHAT: Health department officials are worried over rising Covid fatalities in

Jorhat

and

Golaghat

districts where 10 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours despite a declining trend in positivity rate over the past few days.

The officials are concerned as a large number of patients are still under treatment in hospitals in both Jorhat and Golaghat.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman said six people below 45 years have died in the past 24 hours, taking the toll up to 282 in the district. About 1,300 people are under treatment at

Jorhat Medical College and Hospital

(

JMCH

) and other Covid care centers in the district as on Monday.

A health department official in Jorhat said, “For the first time, the positivity rate in Jorhat has gone below 1% on Monday. In the past seven days, a total of 38,061 people were tested for the virus and found 728 people positive for Covid- 19.”

In Golaghat district, four people died of Covid- 19 in the past 24 hours. Of the four, two were women and one was about 19 years old. All of them died at JMCH.

A health department official in Golaghat said, “The positivity rate has gone down to 1% for the first time in Golaghat. About 50 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The district has 1,022 active cases as on date.”

Both Jorhat and Golaghat districts are under a 24-hour curfew and total containment since July 7. The government extended the curfew in both the districts for the second consecutive time on July 20. The Jorhat district administration allowed opening of grocery shops up to 3 pm, while Golaghat allowed it up to 5 pm since July 20. All other services, except emergency services, have been closed in Jorhat and Golaghat since July 7.
