LPMS introduced at Agartala ICP

Agartala: Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) on Tuesday introduced an enhanced Land Port Management System (LPMS) at Agartala ICP in Akhaura along the Indo-Bangladesh border to improve cross-border trade and strengthen security measures.LPAI chairman Aditya Mishra stated that while they have operated three modern land ports in Tripura, Bangladesh-Agartala, Srimantarpur, and Sabroom for several years, the system upgrade was essential to improve cross-border trade and connectivity.The Agartala land port, functioning alongside Akhaura, has established itself as the second most active trading route between India and Bangladesh, following Petrapole-Benapole. "Trade volume through Agartala land port recorded Rs 318 crore in 2023-24. This infrastructure not only bolsters bilateral trade but also fosters regional cooperation, setting the stage for LPMS," Mishra said.Operating under the MHA, the Land Ports Authority of India focuses on improving border infrastructure to ensure security and facilitate trade and movement of people.The LPMS introduces advanced technology, providing a single-window system with extensive capabilities. The system digitalises port operations, incorporating features such as slot booking, integrated payments, simplified regulatory approvals and automated port operations through a unified platform.According to Mishra, the LPMS will decrease logistics expenses, improve operational productivity, maintain security and stimulate economic development. It will also strengthen regional connectivity and collaboration, establishing India's land ports as key trading gateways with South Asian nations.
