Silchar: Repolling at booth number 239 in Babyland High English School under Karimganj North assembly constituency in Sribhumi district recorded a voter turnout of 61.67% on Saturday, officials said. The booth has 599 registered voters.The Election Commission ordered the repoll after clashes between BJP and Congress supporters during polling on April 9. Voting began at 7am and continued till pm under tight security.

“Repolling went on smoothly, and arrangements for free and fair polling have been ensured. There’s no report of any untoward incident during the polling,” an official said.Authorities said the decision followed reports of disturbances during the initial voting. “There were reports of some issues on April 9, the polling day, and hence the repolling was ordered,” the official added.Karimganj North recorded 86.15% turnout on April 9. The seat is seeing a triangular contest among BJP’s Subrata Bhattacharjee, Congress’sJakaria Ahmed and AIUDF candidate Choudhury Hibbur Rasul Usama Mabrur, along with 11 other contenders.Assam voted for all 126 assembly constituencies in a single phase on April 9, with an approximate turnout of 85.91%.
On Saturday, voters queued and cast ballots peacefully. Central forces and state police were deployed in and around the polling station, with surveillance at entry points to prevent disruptions. Officials said heightened security and district monitoring ensured smooth repolling. Local residents welcomed the repoll as a step toward a transparent and fair process.
