Recent violence in Manipur's Bishnupur dist triggers shortage of fuel in Churachandpur

Churachandpur: An acute shortage of petrol, diesel and LPG has been witnessed in Churachandpur district since law-and-order problems erupted following recent violence at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district, where two minor children were killed in a bomb attack, in the early hours of Tuesday.

All petroleum depots in Churachandpur have been shut, as stocks and storage were exhausted. Reports indicated that the district currently has no stock of these items due to transportation issues on the highway between Imphal and Churachandpur district.




In response, the Churachandpur district administration has taken proactive steps to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential items. An emergency meeting was held on Thursday, chaired by Churachandpur deputy commissioner Dharun Kumar . The meeting was attended by 16 LPG and fuel supplying agencies, during which stock positions were reviewed.

The agencies pointed out that the stock levels had fallen from very low on April 7 to zero by Thursday, emphasising the need for an alternate supply route to alleviate the current shortages.

Based on concerns raised by supplying agencies, the DC discussed the matter with the concerned authorities in Imphal, primarily with the state co-ordinator of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) via video conference. He also intimated them on the distressing situation faced by people of the district.

The IOCL state co-ordinator asked Kumar to inform higher authorities and urged patience while awaiting a decision to overcome the challenges.

Accordingly, Kumar wrote a letter to the secretary of consumer affairs, food & public distribution of the Manipur govt, informing him about the fuel and LPG shortage in Churachandpur and requesting an arrangement of an alternative route for transportation of fuel until normalcy is restored along the usual route.Get real-time updates and result insights on the CBSE 12 Result 2026.
