ITANAGAR: Landslides triggered by the first spell of monsoon has snapped surface communication to Tezu in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. The town was cut off from the rest of the state following massive landslides because of incessant rain in the last few days.
Heavy rain has hit restoration work by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). "For a few hours, the road was cleared.
But continuous rainfall is creating hurdles in restoration work," said P K Gupta, a BRO official.
Alubari Ghat, connecting Tezu with Namsai, has also been closed owing to rising water levels of the Lohit river and its tributaries, the source said.
Transport services from Tezu to Tinsukia and Itanagar have remained suspended since the last three days resulting in scarcity of essential commodities. The downpour has also resulted in waterlogging at many places in Pasighat, the headquarters town.
