GUWAHATI: The state unit of
Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday said Mamata Banerjee's
railway budget was comparatively better than earlier ones as the state and the region got several new projects. The office-bearers of TMC are also hopeful that they would be able to show a better performance in the coming polls.
"With 13 new projects, I think it is a better scenario compared to earlier occasions.
I don't see any logic in staging demonstrations against the budget. As TMC has no MP from the state, our district committee requested the railway minister to provide us with more facilities," said Kailash Sarma, the president of Kamrup (Metro) district Trinamool Congress Committee.
TMC state president Debeswar Bora said people always have expectations and they are never happy with whatever they get. "It's a people-friendly railway budget and the state, too, has got several new trains. It's obvious that people always expect more than whatever they get. Here I have to say that it would have been great had we got two more long-distance trains," Bora said.
Kailash Sarma, who is contesting the coming assembly elections from East Guwahati constituency, said TMC has been able to grab people's attention gradually. "I think our popularity has increased a bit over the years. My aim would be to minimize drinking water and flashflood problems in the city. Be it Congress, BJP or AGP, everyone has failed to address the problems of Guwahati," said Sarma.
