GUWAHATI:
Congress vice-president
Rahul Gandhi will address a public rally in Guwahati on November 26 to kick off the party’s campaign, expecting a fourth consecutive victory in the Assam Assembly elections in April or May next year.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta said, “Rahul ji will be in Guwahati for two days from November 26. Apart from the public rally, he will also interact with students, youths, tea garden workers, intellectuals and members from minority communities on November 26 and 27.”
Rahul will visit the state at a time when the Congress is going through a political crisis from the migration of ten of its MLAs to the BJP.
Former minister Himanta Sarma joined the
BJP in August while nine other MLAs of Congress formally joined BJP here today.
Dutta said the exit of the ten MLAs from the party is not a setback to the Congress. “In fact, good days for the Congress have started with these ten MLAs going out. The party will be more disciplined now onwards. There will be no more dissidence. There will be no more attempts to overthrow the chief minister. The party and the government are working in a more coordinated way now,” Dutta said.
