AGARTALA: A Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan went berserk and shot dead two of his colleagues besides injuring three others following an altercation while discussing the party manifestos of CPM and Congress Monday evening at Thamcharaipara in Dhalai district.
According to reports, TSR 8th battalion rifleman Binoy Debbarma, angry with two jawans of the 10th battalion for refusing to vote for a particular party, resorted to indiscriminate firing at a common recreation club where they were gathered.

The two jawans who were killed in the firing were identified as Utpal Datta and Ullas Mian. The incident left three others, including two riflemen of the 8th battalion, injured seriously; one of them is stated to be critical.
However, the accused rifleman, Binoy, fled with his weapon immediately after the incident. Police accompanied by paramilitary forces were deployed in the area to allay the tension while a massive hunt was launched to arrest him.
Reports said TSR 8th and 10th battalion jawans were brought to Thamcharaipara camp last week ahead of the assembly polls and they were sharing the same kitchen and recreation club.
