Assam polls: PM Narendra Modi & Union home minister Amit Shah among 40 star campaigners on BJP’s list
GUWAHATI: As many as 40 star campaigners, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, besides chief ministers of a few other states, will hold campaigns for BJP for the assembly polls to be held in a single phase next month, said BJP state president Dilip Saikia.
“We have sent a list of 40 star campaigners for the party to the central committee, who forwarded the list to the chief election commissioner of India. The ECI has approved the list already,” Saikia said.
He added that besides PM Modi and Shah, party’s national president Nitin Nabin, defence minister Rajnath Singh, road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju are among the leaders who will intensify the party’s campaigns for the polls.
“We have also sought Maharastra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi as star campaigners,” he added.
He said the proposals have also been sent to the central committee of the party to hold a rally led by Rajnath Singh in Darrang district and a rally by Amit Shah in Tangla in Udalguri district.
Filing of nomination papers will conclude on Monday. “We are putting effort to begin our campaign from Tuesday, a day after the last date of filing the nomination papers, as there is very less time for the polls. We are planning to move ahead without wasting time. Usually, political parties take a brief gap of one or two days to begin the campaign after the last date of filing the nomination papers,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
There will be only 16 days till the polls after the deadline for filing nomination papers ends.
Sarma, while talking to the media in Dima Hasao, said, “We (NDA) have the potential to win 104 out of 126 seats. The picture will be clear once we begin the campaign.”
Urging the people to extend their support to BJP candidate Rupali Langthasa in Haflong constituency, which is the lone constituency in Dima Hasao district, Sarma said, “Peace has been established in the district after the BJP-led govt was formed in the state. Moreover, the hilly district has also seen enormous development under the BJP-led govt.”
Langthasa will file her nomination papers on Monday.
