Two arrested in Hailakandi for trying to murder Islamic scholar
Sources said the two men took Abdul Malik to one Ibrahim Ali’s house in the Jamira locality. After they reached there, the two men — Kamrul Alam Choudhury and Zakaria Zaman Laskar — allegedly tried to slit Malik’s throat with a sharp weapon. Malik started screaming for help following which the men fled leaving him critically injured.
Alerted by the screams, local residents chased the accused persons and managed to catch hold of them. They were later handed over to police at Jamira police station. A team of police reached the house and sent Malik to a hospital for treatment.
Two top NLFT men arrested by Tripura police soon after crossing border
Tripura police arrested two top NLFT militants who entered the state from Bangladesh. The arrested militants are Sachin Debbarma and Utpal Debbarma. They are accused of large-scale killing, murder, extortion, and abduction. This operation is a significant success for Tripura police, who have arrested or surrendered 24 NLFT cadres and leaders this year. The militants crossed the border due to resource shortage in their Bangladesh hideouts and had planned to surrender for rehabilitation benefits.
Advocate Vikas Malik elected as president of HCBA
Advocate Vikas Malik has been elected as the president of Punjab and Haryana high court bar association (HCBA), defeating Onkar Singh Batalvi. He had earlier served as the vice-president of the HCBA. Advocate Jasdev Brar has been elected as vice president, Swaran Tiwana as secretary, Parveen Dahiya as Joint secretary, and Sunny Namdev as treasurer. The elections were held by the election committee headed by senior advocate B S Rana.
Doraha police arrests two persons, recovers Rs 13.7 lakh "fake currency"
Doraha Police arrests two persons after recovering Rs.13.70 lakhs worth of counterfeit currency. The accused, Gurdeep Singh and Maninder Pal Singh, were apprehended during a checkpoint on GT Road. Fake currency amounting to Rs.9.5 lakhs was found in their car. Further investigation led to the recovery of Rs.4.2 lakhs in fake currency from Gurdeep Singh's rented accommodation in Patiala. Police also seized a color printer, ink, and note printing paper. Gurdeep Singh, the mastermind with 4 previous cases, is suspected of circulating Rs.1.5 lakhs fake currency in the market.
