Newborn abandoned at Shillong hospital, now in protective care
Shillong: A newborn boy was abandoned at the gate of the outpatient department (OPD) of Ganesh Das Hospital at 8.25pm at Lawmali in Shillong on March 23, a statement issued by the district child protection unit, East Khasi Hills, said on Wednesday.The infant boy, whose photograph was released by the child protection unit, is currently under the care and protection of Lawei Baphyrnai, a specialised adoption agency in Shillong.The East Khasi Hills district child protection officer has appealed to any person or relatives with information regarding the baby to contact the authorities and claim within 60 days from March 8, failing which the child will be declared ‘legally free for adoption’.
