Movie on 80's Assamese agitation awaits release

GUWAHATI: Bollywood actor Nakul Vaid, who has played major roles in films like 'Ab Tak Chappan' and 'Lunch Box' among others, has helped make an Assamese film, 'Rainbow Fields', that takes a fresh look at the Assam agitation in the Eighties and how it affected children and shaped their destinies. Directed by National Award-winning film-maker Bidyut Kotoky, the film features veteran actor Victor Banerjee.

"I know Bidyut for a long time and we are good friends. He made it clear to me that I should do the film only if I liked it. The script was good and I decided to go ahead. But the film ran short of money and I thought I should invest as the narrative appealed to me," Vaid told TOI from Mumbai. 'Rainbow Fields' or 'Xhoihobote Dhemalite' is semiautobiographical in nature and inspired by true incidents from the director's life. Besides Vaid and Banerjee, the film stars Naved Aslam, Nipon Goswami and Nikumoni Barua. Supermodel Dipannita Sharma has made her debut in Assamese films with this film.

"I saw everyone put their best foot forward for this venture. Some of them travelled to Guwahati from Mumbai in train which takes more than 36 hours," he added.
