GUWAHATI: This assembly polls, the
Election Commission has pulled out all stops to reach out to the electorate and encourage them to exercise their franchise. And there couldn't have been a way if doing this than roping in Zubeen Garg, the young music icon of
Assam, to carry the message to the masses, feels the EC. The theme song has been penned by a block development officer named Pankaj Chakravarty and sung by Zubeen.
"Zubeen is one of the most popular singers in the state and we feel he has the ability to draw the attention of the masses," an official said.
The flamboyant singer of Ya ali' fame kicked off the Election Commission's campaign to woo people to vote in great style. "Bibek vote amar kamya, bhotadhikar amar astra, ganatantrar maha mantra," he sang, urging one and all to be true to their citizen's conscience and cast their votes without fail.
The EC has also added a dash of glamour to its campaign panel with the stunning Nishita Goswami and the dashing Jatin Bora as its star campaigners, both reminding the people of the state of the importance of exercising their voting rights. A top-rung female actor of the Assamese film industry, Nishita tells the people that on D-day, going to the polling centre and casting their vote should come before anything else. Her male colleague, Jatin, explains how a single vote can change the future. He appeals to people that they cast their vote for a better future.
The Commission on Thursday released audio-video clip of its campaign, which also features the erudite former President, APJ Abdul Kalam, and the country's heartthrob and wicket-keeper captain of the national cricket team, Mahindra Singh Dhoni.
The charismatic Kalam appealed, "You are to move forward and further ahead and for that you need to exercise your democratic right, this time and every time. For your progress, welfare and happiness, do not fail to cast your vote." Dhoni says, "I am not just the captain of the national cricket team. I am also the captain of my future because I cast my vote."
There are others who have also lent their support to the EC campaign. Eminent scholar Golak Chandra Goswami and his wife Mamoni Goswami have also been roped in to motivate the electorate to cast their ballot and they, too, feature in the EC campaign clip.
