PM Modi to officially kick off BJP’s Assam poll campaign on Feb 14

GUWAHATI: On his third visit to Assam since Dec, PM Narendra Modi will officially kick off BJP’s campaign on Feb 14 for the upcoming assembly elections in March-April, besides inaugurating the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Guwahati, and handing over 100 electric buses to the state govt.

Modi will also inaugurate the Kumar Bhaskarvarman Setu, connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati, over the Brahmaputra.



The PM will officially launch the campaign while addressing over 1,00,000 party workers, including more than 30,000 booth presidents, guardians, and beneficiaries of various state and Centre-run schemes.

Flagging off 75 video vans from the Veterinary College playground at Khanapara, which will travel across the 126 assembly constituencies, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The video vans will have an electronic display board, where information about governance and the govt’s welfare initiatives will be displayed. Moreover, there will be a box in each van, where people will be able to submit their suggestions and advices for the manifesto.”

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita said BJP will prepare its manifesto by focussing primarily on hopes and aspirations of the people. “Every suggestion will be treated as a guiding directive, and the party will approach the forthcoming elections with a people-centric vision,” he said.

He added that the party has also opened a dedicated phone number for receiving public suggestions. Kalita said that since BJP formed govt in 2016, six new bridges have been completed over the Brahmaputra in the last ten years.
